Multiple motorists near Levelland independently reported a glowing object and vehicles whose engines and lights briefly failed.

- Over several hours, the local sheriff's office received separate calls from drivers describing a bright, egg- or oval-shaped object low over roads near Levelland.
- Several witnesses reported that their car engines and headlights stalled or dimmed as the object was nearby, then recovered after it left.
- The case was investigated and cataloged by Project Blue Book.
The ordinary explanation / open question
Project Blue Book concluded the sightings were most likely ball lightning or an electrical effect associated with a storm in the area; some witnesses and investigators disputed that this fit the reported engine failures.
